Think you may not have any food allergies or sensitivities because you don't experience major symptoms? Fine with nuts? No hives? So not a problem for you?
Hang on just a minute.
From all my years of experience, I find that most people DO have foods that they are reacting to—quietly undermining their health and completely hidden in plain sight. In fact, it's usually one of the BIGGEST causes of ill health and weight gain.
But let me start with a quick clarification: The difference between a food allergy and food sensitivity is actually a technical term based on what part of the immune system has been provoked. But let's not get technical here.
What you need to know is that both food allergies and sensitivities
are a HUGE STRESS to your body.
Some food reactions may cause an immediate life-threatening reaction, while others may show no perceivable signs at all—although there is still a reaction going on "under the surface."
Regardless, here's a universal truth about all allergies and sensitivities:
They cause inflammation. This inflammation can occur in the digestive tract or throughout the entire body.
They contribute to leaky gut. When the gut becomes too permeable, various "critters" and food particles enter the bloodstream, posing a serious health risk.
They increase cortisol. This adrenal hormone is crucial for survival, but chronic elevation can deteriorate your health and cause weight gain.
Now, how do you know if you may have food allergies or sensitivities?
Sometimes you can tell by how you feel, but most of the time, especially if you routinely feel “crappy,” it's extremely challenging to pinpoint—especially if you eat the food daily, such as cheese, bread, or corn chips.
So, what's the answer? TEST.
Opt for blood tests. Yes, various tests are available, and while some may not be of great quality, others are excellent.
